Elements of Competency Performance Criteria              
Element: Identify local native plants to be harvested
  • Investigate main types and traditional uses of native plants
  • Identify scientific and local Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander plant name
  • Consult with local Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people to ensure cultural protocols are followed
       
Element: Harvest required plants
  • Confirm season and location have been considered and plants are suitable for harvest
  • Prepare harvesting equipment according to supervisor instruction
  • Follow workplace processes for safely harvesting plants
  • Collect identified plants using appropriate method
  • Remove any foreign material and clean plants in preparation for storage
  • Dispose of waste according to supervisor instruction

  • Confirm plants have been inspected for disease or pests with supervisor
  • Ensure plants are labelled according to supervisor's instruction
  • Package plants following relevant food safety standards

Assessment Tasks
